Risks of Open Off-Leash Play

At Starwood Pet Resort, we believe in the value of socialization, exercise, and enrichment through open, off-leash play in a carefully monitored environment. However, it’s important for all pet parents to understand that off-leash group play carries inherent risks—even under the supervision of trained staff.By participating in off-leash play, you acknowledge and accept the following potential risks:

•Minor Injuries: Dogs may experience small scratches, nicks, or play bites, even in non-aggressive interactions.

•Rough Play: Some dogs play with more intensity than others. While we do our best to match compatible play styles, occasional tumbles or bumps can happen.

•Resource Guarding: Dogs may become temporarily possessive of toys, water bowls, or treats, which can cause conflict.

•Stress or Overstimulation: Not all dogs are suited for a group play environment. Stress may lead to signs of anxiety, withdrawal, or reactivity.

•Escapes or Fence Jumping: Although rare, there is a risk of dogs attempting to jump fences or slip past gates.

•Illness or Parasites: Even with strict vaccination requirements, there is always a minimal risk of contagious illness or parasites in communal spaces. We take every reasonable precaution to ensure a safe, fun, and controlled play environment, including:

•Supervising all group play by trained staff

•Matching dogs by size, age, temperament, and energy level

•Taking immediate action at the first sign of discomfort, aggression, or fatigue

•Requiring all dogs to be current on vaccinations and parasite preventionBy enrolling your dog in our daycare program, you acknowledge and accept these risks and agree that Starwood Pet Resort will not be held liable for injuries or illnesses that may occur during open, off-leash play.
